Eastern White Pine is Michigan’s state tree and is native throughout the state. Its soft, blue-green needles grow in bundles of five, giving it a finer, softer appearance than many spruce and fir varieties.
In a typical landscape setting, Eastern White Pine commonly matures to approximately 50 to 80 feet tall and 20 to 40 feet wide. Given enough time and ideal natural conditions, however, White Pine can become considerably larger, with mature forest specimens reaching 150 to 200 feet tall.
That potential makes site selection important. White Pine is best suited to landscapes where it has enough room to develop and where customers can appreciate the size and character it gains with age.
