Behind the Bark: How Armintrout’s Prepares Trees for On-Time Delivery

When your landscaping schedule is tight, delays in plant delivery can derail the entire project. That’s why Armintrout’s Tree Farm takes extra steps behind the scenes to make sure your trees are dug, prepped, and delivered with efficiency and care.

Whether you're ordering container trees or balled-and-burlapped evergreens, our process is designed to help you stay on track and meet your deadlines—without compromising tree health.

Container Trees: The Plant-in-Pot Advantage

One of the key ways we keep things moving smoothly is with our plant-in-pot system, where trees are grown in containers that sit directly in the ground. This makes digging and prepping both faster and cleaner.

A container sits ready to receive a new evergreen transplant.

Here’s how it works:

  • A skilled operator uses a specialized tree spade mounted on a skid steer to dig the tree directly from the ground.

  • The tree is placed into a container inside a wire basket, which provides both structure and protection during transport.

  • Finally, a laborer tucks in the root ball with soil, ensuring the tree is stable, secure, and ready to ship.

This method minimizes transplant shock, reduces prep time, and helps us get healthy trees on the road quicker.

Balled and Burlapped: Old-School Skill Meets Modern Efficiency

For balled-and-burlapped (B&B) trees, the process is slightly different but equally streamlined:

  • The tree is dug with the tree spade and placed directly into a wire frame lined with burlap.

  • Once the tree is in place, a crew member uses sisal twine to tie a star-shaped pattern, securing the tree tightly to the wire basket.

This traditional method, when done right, ensures that trees remain stable during transit and healthy when planted.

Why It Matters: Time is Money

A late delivery can push your entire schedule back, increase labor costs, and frustrate clients. Armintrout’s commitment to efficient prep and dependable shipping helps eliminate those risks. You get trees that are:

  • Professionally dug and stabilized

  • Shipped on time

  • Ready to thrive when they hit the jobsite

When your project timeline matters, partner with a grower who treats delivery like it’s part of the job—not an afterthought.
