A Most Elegant Evergreen. Tall and slim with gracefully pendulous branches, a hint of blue in the dark green foliage, and white undersides to the flat needles that make the tree look flushed with silver. Serbian Spruce is considered a relic species that barely escaped extinction during the ice ages. They are native to several areas that altogether comprise less than 12 square miles in the Republic of Serbia. They were first described to the scientific community in 1875, recognized as a distinct species in 1877 and seeds were sent to the Arnold Arboretum in Massachusetts in 1881.
